The bottom line is that RAM is still the most affordable way to upgrade your system and maxing your system out is encouraged because it is relatively inexpensive. Where it will be expensive and wasteful is if you see that your system can handle 8gb of Ram or more and you are running a 32bit Version of the Microsoft operating systems and you purchase the RAM in hopes of system performance boost! You will get a boost but only to the limits of the OS.
